Ambience
A page that answers the writing
Distraction-free has always been calm — but the page never gave anything back for the act of writing. Ambience makes the ground behind your prose react, slowly and subtly, to writing itself. It's a peripheral reward you notice when you look up, off by default, and it never touches the words.
The menu
Pick how the page should feel
Ambience lives in the editor's new Appearance menu, alongside your paper tone and light-or-dark theme. Choose one of a small, curated set — not a box of effects to fiddle with — and set an intensity: Subtle, Balanced, or Bold.
It's off by default, a per-device choice like your paper — pick a mood, or leave the page perfectly still.
Constellation
A star for every sentence you finish
Finish a sentence and a faint star appears overhead; nearby stars quietly link into a slowly growing constellation across the sky around your prose. It's a reward you notice when you look up — never a thing you sit and watch.
It's peripheral by design: it lives at the edges, moves over seconds and minutes, and nothing ever chases your cursor.
Aurora
Light that deepens the longer you stay
Barely-there bands of soft-blurred light gather behind the page and deepen the longer you write in a sitting. A quiet measure of a session's momentum, held in the ambient light rather than a counter.
Like every ambience, it's the opposite of a gamified dashboard — slow, optional, and easy to leave off. The page gives a little back to the act of writing, and nothing more.
Progress
A grid that fills toward your goal
A soft grid gathers behind the page and fills from the floor up as you close on your daily word goal — a quiet gauge of the day's writing, read at a glance instead of watched on a counter.
It's the one ambience tied to a number: set a daily goal and it has something to fill toward. Without one, it simply stays still.

Distraction-free editing
Real book typography, warm paper themes, dark mode, focus mode, and typewriter scroll — a surface built to disappear so the page is the only thing you see.
Revise
Craft lenses
Ten colour washes that reveal your own habits on the page — adverbs, filter words, sentence rhythm, sensory balance, echoes and more — each teaching from both sides so you decide. It recolours your prose; it never rewrites it.
Reflect
Writing stats
Your habit and your book, given back as a calm stats page — a year heatmap, a forgiving streak, your writing persona, the cast of your story, and a shareable Writing Wrapped. It never shames a slow week.
Remember
The Map & structure
The canon of your world — characters, places, facts, every mention — and the outline of your manuscript: parts, chapters, synopses, statuses, reordering.
Think
Marginalia & the AI companion
Notes, to-dos, and chat pinned to the paragraph they're about — beside an AI that reads your whole book, checks it against your canon, and never writes a line of it.
Research
Research beside the page
Ask a question mid-sentence and the companion searches the web, reads the sources, and answers with citations — right in the margin, without pulling you out of the draft. It hands you facts, never prose.
Connect
The MCP connector
Point Claude, ChatGPT, or Cursor at your real book — with a public catalog of editor, critique, character, and craft-drill skills. It reads everything; it never writes your prose.
Automate
The Writer API
Your book as data you can script against — import a legacy manuscript, run a transform, wire a publish pipeline. The one surface where your own prose can flow in and out.
Quiet on purpose
The page, alive — only if you want it
Every ambience is slow, peripheral, and optional — the opposite of a dashboard demanding your attention. Turn one on when you want the page to breathe with you, and off when you just want the words. The pen stays yours.
