Built by a writer who wanted help — not a ghostwriter

Calliope started the way a lot of tools do — with a problem its founder couldn't solve any other way.

Martin Rapavý sat down to write a book. And he quickly ran into the part of writing nobody warns you about: not the prose, but everything around it. The sheer amount you have to hold in your head. Who this character is and what you named them three chapters ago. What's already canon and what you only meant to imply. The research you needed mid-sentence without losing the thread. The quiet dread of a contradiction you wrote in chapter two surfacing in chapter nine.

So he went looking for a tool to help. And every AI writing tool he found wanted to do the one thing he didn't want help with: the writing itself. They would draft, expand, and rewrite — they'd write the book for him. None of them did the part he actually needed: act as an editor, a researcher, a second memory. An assistant who checks the work without taking it over.

The tool that didn't exist

He wanted an AI that was purely a helper. Something that would remember his world, research alongside him, and keep his story consistent — and then stay out of the way so he could write the sentence himself. An AI used only as an editor, only as an assistant. Not the author. Just someone who runs the check.

That tool didn't exist. So he started building it.
